Drive to the Conditions.

Driving conditions in New Zealand vary from region to region, as well as depending on the weather and other hazards.

To ensure your safety and the safety of others, all drivers must observe the following requirements when operating a Statement Rental Cars vehicle:

  • Use headlights whenever visibility is reduced, including during rain, fog, dusk, or dawn.

  • Maintain safe following distances and appropriate speeds, adjusting for road, weather, and traffic conditions at all times.

  • Snow chains must be safely fitted when required. Do not exceed 25 km/h while chains are in use, and ensure they are removed as soon as the road is clear.

  • Be alert for black ice, especially in shaded areas or where road signs indicate icy conditions. Drive slowly and with caution.

  • Sun glare can be hazardous. Keep the windscreen clean, ensure the washer reservoir is full, and use sunglasses and the sunvisor when needed.

  • Slow down during wet or slick conditions, and increase braking distance to allow for slippery surfaces.

  • Do not drive through any surface flooding.

These guidelines are mandatory and form part of your responsibility as a hirer to operate the vehicle safely and in accordance with New Zealand road laws and conditions.
